Learning to Be a Scientist: Week 1, Day 2

Continuing with Learning to Be a Scientist: the first concept is "Scientists make observations," second activity "In My Square." (This is actually the third activity, but we skipped the second activity and did it on the weekend without George.) The point was to observe a one square foot area and to draw in a square on paper what they saw. I marked off 3 very different areas and the kids got to choose which two they wanted to do.

Square 3

Builder Boy chose squares 1 and 3, George chose squares 2 and 3. Early Bird ran around with George's little sister who tagged along for the day.

The kids had a difficult time drawing their pictures from the perspective of looking down at it. Their first drawings looked at the scene as seen from the side. I drew a picture of my own to demonstrate, and they did better on the second drawing.
